The Port of Leixões Cruise Terminal is one of the most significant investments promoted by APDL – Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo, SA and which results from a dynamic of territorial cooperation, interconnecting two main objectives: to improve the commercial effectiveness of the port, maximizing the ability to attract a segment with great potential for growth that is the activity of cruise ships and, on the other hand, that of urban integration, associated with increased sociability with the surrounding population. This work of imposing architectural value has the signature of Architect Luís Pedro Silva.

It is the biggest project ever to open the port to the city, making the Port of Leixões an important entry point in the region and definitively boosting the growth in the number of cruise ships and passengers in Leixões, becoming increasingly as a cruise port.

Even if seen from afar, it is already an unavoidable icon in the architectural landscape of the Matosinhos and Porto waterfront. The building arises from the synthesis of various movements and flows, of an arm that comes to the ship, another that goes to the curve of the south jetty of the port, another that leads to the city and then another that falls inside the building. A roof to shelter people, a wall to support a ramp and a flap to shelter buses are laminated elements that do not lose their character.

The terminal arises from a cluster of actions comprising a pier for cruise ships up to 320m in length, a marina for 170 boats, a main building with approximately 1,500m2 of usable area and which includes the Pole do Mar da Universidade do Porto and, finally, a pedestrian access for the general public with a connection to part of the main building, thus interconnecting the city of Matosinhos to the new Cruise Terminal, in a space that will be born next to the south pier of the Port of Leixões.
